Combination Code 101!

Hi Guys,

The secret to looking very well put together and combining fashion pieces to achieve a flawless fashion forward look; is what I'm about to let you in on.

Looking fabulous is not rocket science. However, there is a "method to the madness", if you will, lol! All I'm trying to say is, there is a formula that I refer to as the "Combination Code" and it comprises of: The Base, The Accent and The Pop.

N.B: I must also add that the Combination Code applies to Men and Women equally.

The Base

The Base is basically "The Canvas". The Base is the foundation of the outfit. It is what the entire outfit is built upon. It is the layout of the route you want to go, style wise.

The Base pieces are items like: A Dress, A Suit, A Jumpsuit or Skirt/Pants. The Base pieces are usually basic, but the more basic, the better, as they can be properly accessorized and switched up to create different looks.

Jumpsuit...
Midi Dress...

Pencil Skirt...

Ankle Grazer Pants...
The Accent

The Accent is the Detail. Albeit attractive, it is not necessarily the piece that stands out. The Accent is that fashion item or detail that is used to switch "The Base" into different outfits. What i'm trying to say is, The Accent are those pieces that when added, can take "The Base" outfit from Day wear to Night Look or, from Office wear to Cocktails...

Examples of The Accent pieces for "The Ladies" are: A blazer in a fabulous colour, A cool cardigan or a pretty blouse. Examples of The Accent pieces for "The Gents are: Neckties, Bowties, Pocket Squares, etc.

Bow Tie...
Blouse...

N.B: In Accenting, Pick an approach. Either to match or contrast and stick to it.

The Pop

The Pop is very crucial. In my opinion, "The Pop" is that fashion item that shows your personal style. It is what gives your outfit the "Wow Factor". The pop is that item that can make the outfit go from Fabulous to Failure. The Pop is the most ignored feature, as many people do not think it's even necessary to accessorize. Even though it is not exactly necessary, it is better to, as "The Pop" item enhances the overall look. Without The Pop, the outfit can be bland and boring!

Examples of pop pieces are: A pair of killer heels, an eye-catching embellished purse, Arm candy like a beautiful handbag/briefcase or a show stopping statement neckpiece!

Handbag...

Remember, "The Base" is the blank canvas. "The Accent" is that detail or item added to "The Base" to complement it or switch it up and "The Pop" is that fashion accessory that literally stands out!

Now that the Combination Code has been decoded, you should be able to put together an outfit that is not only fashion forward, but also appropriate for the occasion and location!
